A native of New York, saxophonist Jeff Humphrey is currently Adjunct Professor of Saxophone at the University of West Florida as well as an ABD Doctoral Candidate at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Mr. Humphrey’s performances include guest artist recitals at various universities both nationally and internationally. He has also given recitals at a number of summer saxophone workshops featuring the Mana Saxophone Quartet, Mr. Patrick Meighan, and the Rascher Saxophone Quartet. As a soloist, Jeff has performed concerti with the Banda Republicana of Panama, the Festival Internacional de Musicá Guaranda Orchestra, and the University of Southern Mississippi Wind Ensemble. Humphrey has competed in and won prizes at many competitions as both a soloist and chamber musician including the Mississippi MTNA competition, the 2014 International Saxophone Symposium and Competition, and the North American Saxophone Alliance Quartet Competition. A well-versed jazz saxophonist, Jeff has performed at the Syracuse Jazz Festival, the National Music Festival, as well as in Tom Walker’s Gospel Train Big Band. As a chamber musician, Jeff performs in the nations leading saxophone orchestra, the Megalopolis Saxophone Orchestra.
An avid supporter of new music, Jeff continues to seek out composers to commission new works from. These include pieces for saxophone and piano, saxophone quartet, and saxophone orchestra. Jeff has given premiere performances of works by Stacy Garrop, Alan Theisen, Michael Young, Olivia Kieffer, John Secunde, Alan Hankers, and Jay Schwartz.
As an educator Jeff has given masterclasses across Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, New York, Panama, Ecuador, and Europe. Jeff is also the Professor of Saxophone at the Festival Internacional de Musicá Guaranda, in Guaranda, Ecuador, where he works with saxophonists between ages 14 and 35 in masterclasses, daily seminars on practicing effectively and efficiently, and directs the festival saxophone orchestra. Mr. Humphrey is also the Program Coordinator of the Southern Saxophone Workshop, which has featured artists such as Patrick Meighan, Lawrence Gwozdz, and The Rascher Saxophone Quartet.
Mr. Humphrey holds an M.M. in Saxophone Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Performer’s Certificate and B.M. in Saxophone Performance from the State University of New York at Fredonia. His primary teachers have been Dr. Wildy Zumwalt and Dr. Lawrence Gwozdz.
